The 8 Places to Jet Ski in New Jersey

a man smiling next to a body of water

If you’re jet ski freaks like us at Sea the City, finding the best spots to put your craft can be difficult. While New Jersey is a small state, there are still tons of places you can bring your jet ski to enjoy some high-flying thrills with your watercraft. It’s just a matter of finding places that allow it, and have enough free space to make a splash.

So you don’t have to, we’ve put together a list of the five best places for you to take your jet ski for tricks, speeding, and splashing around. From Sandy Hook Bay to Island Beach State Park, we have you covered. After you’ve taken a couple of lessons with us, definitely find your closest jet ski rental company and get in the water!

1. Jet Skiing: Jersey Shore

The best place to start your jet skiing journey in New Jersey is, of course, the Jersey Shore. This world-famous coastline offers endless opportunities for you to enjoy your craft on the water. While there may be more people here during the peak summer months, you can still find plenty of places to yourself if you get up early enough or venture out during the week. And, of course, there are always plenty of people to watch as you jet ski by.

2. Sandy Hook Bay

If you want to stay close to New York City but still get away from the hustle and bustle, Sandy Hook Bay is the place for you. This little slice of paradise is located just a few miles from the city and offers stunning views of the Manhattan skyline. And, of course, there’s plenty of room for you to enjoy your jet ski without worrying about running into any other watercraft.

3.  Lake Hopatcong

Beautiful lush forest; over four square miles of water; boardwalk docks to mount and get off; Check! What more could you ask for in a jet ski spot than Lake Hopatcong? What makes this such a special spot for jet skiers is its remoteness. There are private residences that abut the lake, but this is a great spot to avoid the fanfare of other popular watering holes. That translates to plenty of room for nailing your next jump.

4.  South Jersey Marina

For a destination that is pretty much made for boating and jet skiing, there’s no better spot than South Jersey Marina. There are plenty of docks to embark and disembark from, and a great amount of space to land tricks, speed-ski, and more. Perhaps more geared toward experienced jet skiers (there are tons of other boats and yachts that use the marina, after all) there are still plenty of opportunities to grab a great wave at South Jersey Marina.

5.  Raritan Marina

Probably second on the list of quietest places to bring a jet ski, Raritan Marina is a jet skier’s dream. Lots of reviews mention that there isn’t much to do at this location. What this means for jet skiers is little competition for the water. If you’ve rented a jet ski and are looking for a great beginner’s practice spot, look no further than Raritan.

6. Greenwood Lake

Greenwood Lake is somewhere between 6 to 9 miles long and it’s known for its water sports. This is the place to enjoy fishing, boating, diving, water skiing, jet skiing and more. It is located in the Skylands region close to the towns of Warwick and Vernon.

7. Liberty Landing Marina

While most of the tour rides will be in NY waters, Liberty Landing Marina offers a great place to splash down and hit the harbor. With a little bit of everything, Liberty Landing Marina is the perfect place to end your day of jet skiing. With restaurants and bars close by, you can make a whole day out of it and watch the sunset with a cocktail in hand.

8. Island Beach State Park

Island Beach State Park is a great spot for jet skiing, especially if you’re looking for some waves to play in. The park spans over ten miles of coastline, so there’s plenty of room to explore. And since it’s a state park, you can be sure that the water is well-maintained and perfect for jet skiing. So if you’re looking for a place to really let loose on your jet ski, Island Beach State Park is the place to be.
